The Glamazon by Leah & Bliss | A Bag fit for a Glamazon

31 Jul

Blame it on vanity or just being self-centered but I get excited over anything with the word “Glamazon” in its name. On my way back from NYC last week, I grabbed the latest issue of O, The Oprah magazine, to kill a few hours as the Boltbus sped through the rain to get me to Washington, DC. Among my favorite finds in the magazine was a handbag called the Glamazon by Leah & Bliss. The handbag is the creation of two New York socialites who wanted to create a bag that would be more of a statement making jewelry piece on the wearers arm rather than just a mere accessory.  Inspired by the Hermes Birkin, the Glamazon Bag by Leah & Bliss is a customizable handbag that comes encrusted in colorful stones.

The Glamazon Bag resembles the Hermes Birkin, which has given some luxury handbag connoisseurs cause for concern; making them run for the hills screaming REPLICA. Leah and Bliss have both said that the bag is not meant to be a replica but an inspiration and a youthful rendition of the iconic Birkin. The Glamazon bag is made of hand-sewn Italian leather and is customized by hand.  Discerning handbag enthusiasts should appreciate this bag for its quirkiness, though there are those who own a Birkin that might not give this bag a chance. I do love this bag however, primarily because of the name and because it is a conversation starter.

The Glamazon by Leah & Bliss comes in various sizes with the smallest starting at $295 and the largest at $495.  If you are content with the ready-made collection, you can simply purchase the bag from the website or at Singer22.  If you want a customized bag that uniquely fits your personality, the girls will work with you to make your concept a reality.  The individually customized bag will cost upward of $1000. At that price though, I would rather save up for a real Birkin but for $500, I wouldn’t mind carrying a bag fit for a Glamazon.

Vote Now | Neiman Marcus Passion for Fashion

31 Jul

Help me advance to the next round of the Neiman Marcus Passion for Fashion Style Contest. I get to attend Fashion’s Night Out and a chance to win $5000. My two outfits are inspired by Washington, DC. Washingtonians love to work hard and play hard. In a town of dueling personalities (the politician and the entrepreneur), being conservative is our outside persona. Pearls are our best friend and so is the power color RED.

The gala gal looks chic in romantic lace pumps primped with a bow, ravishing red frock and statement making pearls. It’s elegant. For the gal about town whose day job is to schmooze and make deals, the Michael Kors Cashmere body suit and skirt combo is key. She knows how to cover up for day and vamp it up for night. A long black cashmere jacket is all we need for both looks to be perfected. We aren’t a boring town, we just know how to cover it up well…Vote for me here.  Make sure to leave a comment about my look for bonus points.

New Promo for Real Housewives of DC

30 Jul
Check out the promo for the first season of the Real Housewives of DC. It is sure to be a scandalous treat with a few of the ladies having skeletons in their closets.  Love the Michaele Salahi pompom moment in her hotel room.   Talk of FBI, crashing Congressional Black Caucus dinners, big spenders with no money, finding birth parents and penis, this show should be fun to watch.

Inside the Beauty Bag: Priori & Naturopathica Skincare

29 Jul
The beauty market is saturated with a slew of products that promise to reverse signs of aging and keep women looking forever young without going under the knife.  Sifting through anti-aging products is like looking for a needle in a haystack, frustrating and impossible at times.  As I slowly creep towards my 30s, I’ve trained myself to use the right products, in the right order and at the right time every single day.

A dermatologist once told me that starting an anti-aging regiment in my early 20s will ward off fine lines and wrinkles and prolong the superficial aging as much as humanly possible. For years, I was guilty of going to bed with makeup on after a night of partying. I neglected eye creams, masks, face polishes and facials and opted to use my money for shopping.  I was banking on the “black don’t crack” theory to keep me looking young.

A resolution for the new year, practice healthy skincare, prompted me to get involved in preventing the aging of my skin and take better care of it. For the past seven months, I’ve been washing my face twice a day, using exfoliators three times a week, eye creams twice a day and SPF for my face and lips. I would like to keep looking like I’m 21 and get carded each time I go to the bar until my 40s thank you very much. I very weary of the products I use on my face so it took me a while to get myself to try a new line of anti-aging products I received from Alison Brod PR on a trip to New York City.  I started using the products two months ago by incorporating them into my daily skin care routine.  The three new products are Naturopathica Oat Facial Polish, Priori Idebenone Superceuticals Age Defying Body Cream and the Moisturizing Facial Cream.

Naturopathica Oat Facial Polish is the gentlest scrub I’ve used in a long time.  Boasting natural ingredients like oats, jojoba beads and kernel oil, the scrub quickly goes to work removing all the impurities from my face, prepping it for my Alchimie Forever Kantic Brightening mask and the other moisturizing treatments in my skin care regiment.  A small squeeze of the product is all it takes to get the work started.  The Oat Facial Polish gently exfoliates my skin with oats beads while the creamy mix of apricot kernel oil, jojoba beads and meadowsweet combine to soothe my face.  The astringent properties of the meadowsweet acts as an anti-inflammatory that calms my skin.  I have extremely sensitive skin so this product is perfect for me.

I think of body moisturizers as thick formulas that are supposed to coat my skin for hours.  I didn’t know that light formulas, especially in the summer, also absorb into the skin and keep it moisturized without being greasy.  I’ve been keeping my skin super healthy this summer by making sure I’m properly hydrated, using sunscreen and moisturizing.  I decided to try the Superceuticals Idebenone Superceuticals Age Defying Body Cream because it is supposed to help fight signs of aging.  It “refirms, evens and even smooth the appearance of the skin, to improve the visible signs of aging.” For starters, my skin isn’t wrinkled but it could be firmer. The Age Defying Body Cream glides on smoothly and keeps my skin moisturized all day long. The cream is fragrant free so I can layer on perfume without it changing the scent.

The Priori Idebenone Superceuticals Moisturizing Face Cream is one of those products that every women should invest in.  I noticed a few fine lines around my eyes and laugh lines while examining my face in the mirror. I started using the Priori face cream immediately and have been doing so for two months now. The lines around my face aren’t as noticeable as they were when I first started using  the moisturizer, along with my other facial creams, of course.  Aside from the anti-aging benefits, I’ve noticed a big change in the clarity and suppleness of my skin.  I use it twice a day, once in the morning then again at night.

Lust Fund: Yves Saint Laurent Tribtoo in Leopard

29 Jul

I went to CUSP earlier this year to try on the Yves Saint Laurent Tribtoo pumps because aside from being an iconic shoe, it looks smashing on the feet of celebrities.  I tried on the YSL Tribtoo in a few different sizes but left the store disappointed because they were not comfortable whatsoever.  The shoes are so cute and I wonder how these celebrities were them for so long. I can wear the Tribute Sandals just fine and for hours at a time. I think the box at the toe is a bit too snug. I am going to try it again this afternoon and see if they are comfy enough. I really want these leopard print Tribtoo for the Fall. Come Fashion Week, I will be in these heels with my camel cashmere coat and tea length dress.
