Olivia Palermo in ASOS Magazine

3 Aug

Socialite and The City cast member Olivia Palermo graces the pages of ASOS magazine for August.  The girl is fashionable and darling but comes off aloof and abrasive on the MTV reality show set within the walls of Elle magazine.

Aside from the beautiful photos, Olivia also talks about her reputation, New York City and fashion:

“It’s unfortunate (of the reputation that the TV show has given her), but I think that people understand what they see on that show is not who I am. It’s not accurate. I’m funny, I’m enthusiastic and I’m not a negative person. I always try and look for the good in things.”

“I love New York but when you’re young you should live in different places. In five years I’d like to be living in London with my boyfriend Johannes (Huebl).”

“I just really, really love clothes,” Palermo enthuses as she talks of the importance of reinventing her closet for different occasions. “I’m my own brand, and I have my own opinion” she unapologetically declares when asked about her determination to succeed in the fashion industry. Olivia also gives a rare insight into her relationship with model Johannes Huebl revealing that their lifestyle is surprisingly understated.

She also talks about moving to London in the near future, her modeling aspirations as well as a foray into acting and designing.  She’s got a full plate but I wouldn’t put it past her to get all those things on her list accomplished.

A Moment in Time: Best Wedding Gowns of all Time

27 Jul

In the last few months thousands of couples have tied the knot all over the country.  For the bride, the wedding gown can make or break the big day.  Wedding gowns have come a long way with trends shifting from long sleeved to strapless to three quarter sleeve and every style in between. InStyle magazine compiled a list of the world’s best wedding gowns, which coincidentally were all worn by celebrities and royalty.

With Chelsea Clinton’s wedding just day’s away, everyone is speculating on what her dress will look like.  Will she go strapless like Victoria Beckham? Long and dramatic like Princess Diana? Choose a non-traditional color like lilac a la Julianne Moore or peach like darling Joy Bryant? Will she shift towards elegant and old fashioned like Grace Kelly or Ivanka Trump? Check out the gallery here and get inspiration for your own big day, whether it’s a few months away or years away.

For Fall 2010, the tomboy look is perfected with sex appeal coyly muted. Oversized plaid shirts, A-line skirts in blush pink, shirt dresses and knits as well as the staple favorite loafer round out the La Garconne Fall 2010 collection.

DKNY Pre-Fall Ad Campaign

14 Jun

By now you all know how crazy in love I am with the DKNY collection.  The collection is quintessential New York with young, vibrant yet sophisticated silhouettes that fit seamlessly into other DKNY pieces I own. The pre-fall ad campaign has been on the website since May and I have to say, it’s one of my favorites.  The DKNY collection includes hues of reds, blacks, blues and neutrals that tie in perfectly with last summer and the Hamptons-going crowd. You don’t really have to be in New York to have the DKNY chic sophisticate attitude.

I can see the polo crowd and sailing crowd in the red and navy themed collection that is effortless. The cocktail and couture crowd in Washington would probably go for the black and pattern collection updated with textured skirts and graphic pattern silks for dimension. I love the entire collection but what got me excited was the collection of sleeveless cozies. The cozy is my year round must-have item that works well for layering.  I have learned how to tie the DKNY Cozy all twelve ways and usually recycle the same cozy three times before sending it to the cleaners.

40 Years in Roberto Cavalli’s Fashion Circus

2 Jun

On the 40th anniversary of his label, Roberto Cavalli reveals to Harper’s Bazaar why leopard is lovely, imitation is unflattering, and the party should never end. The photo shoot, in the June issue of the magazine with Katherine Heigl on the cover, captures Cavalli posing with his wife, Eva, their son, Daniele, their flamboyant friends, as well as a lion cub, at their home in Florence, Italy. In the interview, he opens up about what he loves about women, why he thinks he is “a completely typical man,” and more.

On fall’s low-key tailoring: “Minimalism is so boring.”

On other designers taking inspiration from his trademark ideas: “In the beginning, when people copied me I was happy.” But now, “I can understand when H&M or Zara copies me, but I hate it when big designers copy me. You have a big name, you should never copy me.”

On the provenance of his trademark leopard print: “God created such a fantastic world. Leopard is an animal design, and my designs come from nature.”

On his love for fashion, and for women:
“Of course I think about a beautiful woman to dress, because that’s my way,” he says with a shrug. Is there a difference? “Yes,” he says. “I don’t masturbate thinking about fashion.”

On what he loves about women: “Their eyes. A woman can drive me crazy with her eyes. And when they don’t pay attention to me, they drive me crazy too.” “I am a completely typical man.”

13 Apr

Former tennis sensasation Anna Kournikova has, in recent years, dropped out of the limelight to pursue more of her charity work and her relationship with long time beau, Spanish crooner Enrique Iglesias. The 28 year-old Russian beauty was in Washington, DC last week as the special guest of Capitol File magazine, who threw a special cocktail reception at Penn Quarter hot spot Oya, in her honor.
Anna is the cover girl for Capitol File’s latest Spring issue, which is currently on newstands.  Capitol File’s outgoing deputy editor Christie Findlay conducted the phone interview with Anna, who dishes on staying active post tennis, her charity involvements. You can read the full story by clicking here but must pick up a copy of the magazine if you want to see all the fabulous pics.
The closed event brought Washington socialites and business leaders to the downtown lounge to meet the beautiful and equally gracious Kournikova.  Spotted in the crowd were Angie Goff, Kiki Ryan, Matt Landsberg, Ray Regan, Capitol File editrix Sarah Schaffer, Niche Media owner Jason Binn, Winston Bao Lord, gossip columnist Tara Palmeri, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Ayman Hakki and former ABC Bachelor and Navy doctor Andy Baldwin.
