Scentsational: Beyonce Heat Ultimate Elixir

31 Jul

Following the success of her debut fragrance, Heat, singer Beyonce Knowles will launch her second scent, Heat Ultimate Elixir, later this year. The new perfume, which launches September 20, will have similar notes as the original with spicy floral red vanilla orchid, Osmanthus petals, cedarwood, amber, vanilla and Tonka bean. The chanteuse says the new scent captures her private side. Does that mean this new fragrance evokes less Sasha Fierce and more Mrs. Sean Carter?

The singer says of the inspiration for her perfume:

“And as a very young girl, hearing her footsteps…her stilettos click, click, clicking on the hardwood floor and she wore a beautiful fragrance and she would walk past me and it would just stay in the room. It left a warm feeling every time I thought about her scent.

“I think about the icons that I respect and they all have their own fragrance so I thought it was time for me to have my own.”

Beyonce & Keri Hilson in the nude – Grammy Awards Red Carpet

1 Feb

Last night’s Grammy Awards red carpet fashions was not as impressive as I would have liked it. Besides the usuals, Lady Gaga and Rihanna, most artists kept it safe in their red carpet ensembles. The nude color palette has been a trend that many celebs have adopted this spring.  On the Grammy Awards red carpet, new artist Keri Hilson and megastar Beyonce Knowles were spotted in nude gowns, which really complimented their honey colored skintones.

Keri Hilson looked absolutely flawless in a strapless Dolce & Gabbana body-con gown with a mermaid bottom. Keeping her jewelry to a minimum with small earrings and a cocktail ring, the focal point of her ensemble was the jeweled waist of the dress. Her short coif and lavender eyes completed her look.  Beyonce on the other hand chose a short sleeved deep plunge front Stephane Rolland gown with architectural embossing all over it.  The body-con gown also had a mermaid bottom that showed off all the right assets. The gown was very beautiful to photograph but did not look good with all the embossing  when seen up-close.  Don’t get me wrong, I think Beyonce looked flawless but what was up with the glitter steaks in her hair? I am all for creativity but she should have just let the gown and earrings speak for themselves instead of going grade school on us with glitter in the hair.

So you be the judge. Who wore the nude mermaid gown trend the best?

Beyonce performs in Versace at 2010 Grammy Awards

1 Feb
R&B superstar Beyonce was in her element tonight at the Grammy Awards. The chanteuse, who is nominated for a whopping ten Grammys tonight, took the stage in a fierce strapless black number for her performance of “If I were a Boy” and “You Outta Know.” I, along with my twitter followers, was speculating on the designer of the strapless cutout leather mini dress a with metallic enriched bustier.  The Versace team, who happen to be on Twitter sent a twitpic confirming that Beyonce indeed was wearing a Versace Atelier.

Emmanuelle Chriqui named most desirable woman by

19 Jan

I realized today that men really aren’t as superficial as they are often portrayed in the media. We’re raised to think that men want only the hottest girls, who sometimes don’t have the intelligence, grace, humility and strength that the “wife material” posses., today, released its annual Most Desirable Woman of 2010 list. Beating out some major Hollywood vixens is Entourage’s Emmanuelle Chriqui, who nabbed the number one spot. Rounding out the top five is supermodel Marissa Miller, actress Kate Beckingsale, supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio and actress Jessica Alba with Beyonce falling in at number six.

“Hearing what the Top 99 vote is made of is the biggest compliment of all because it’s not just about being ‘hot’ but about being a well-rounded woman,” says 2010’s No. 1 Most Desirable Woman, Emmanuelle Chriqui. “That’s really empowering and is just a massive compliment to me – people recognize that I care about other things.”

The Top 99 Most Desirable Women is decided by an annual poll in which readers are asked to consider more than instant sex appeal and cast their ballot for women who embody the traits that they desire most in a potential companion such as intelligence, humor, talent, and character. In 2009’s list, Eva Mendes took the No. 1 spot. []

Emmanuelle was ranked number twelve last year but rose to the top of the charts after beating vixen Megan Fox, who dropped to eleven this year after being overexposed.  According to, even though men’s magazine’s couldn’t get enough of Fox, several sites banned together for A Day Without Megan Fox in 2009.

More than 6 million people voted for the 99 Most Desirable list so it should be a great honor for even the 99th women, who happens to be Jamie-Lynn Sigler. Congrats to all of them.

Beyoncé to launch first fragrance "Heat"

29 Dec

Beyoncé is no longer a triple threat as she as fragrance designer to her resume which includes a very successful singing career, a clothing line and an acting career. The perfume, dubbed “Heat” for the explosively hot tours the chanteuse has put on in recent years, launches in February but that hasn’t stopped fans from complimenting her on her creation.

“I’ve been working on it for a while now. I was on tour for a year, and I have meet-and-greets with fans. I’ve never in my life gotten so many compliments. Coty has their own testing, but that was my testing! The fans loved it. They were like, ‘I love that, I’m getting that, why isn’t it out right now? I need it!” says Beyoncé.

On the name:
“A lot of my performances have had fire involved, so we thought ‘Heat.’ Also, red is one of my favorite colors, as is gold.”

On the bottle:
“I wanted something with an antique yet modern feeling,” she said. “Even with my wardrobe, I always try to find things that have a little bit of something vintage, yet still timeless and classic.”

Heat, a collaboration with Coty Beauty, will be available at specialty stores like Macy’s and will retail between $39 and $59. With top notes of red vanilla orchid, magnolia, neroli and blush peach, those who flock towards fruity scents will likely be instant fans of “Heat.” The eaux de parfum will come in three sizes, as well as sparkling body lotion.

Perfect in Plaid

3 Aug

I had to wear plaid to prep school when I lived in Ghana and loathed the print when I came to the U.S. in 1995. I was pretty lucky to skip the uniform dress code during middle and high school but for the past couple of months, I’ve been seeing plaid everywhere. Celebrities like Zach Efron, Beyonce, Rob Pattinson and Emma Watson and First Lady Michelle Obama are all mad about plaid and it shows in some of their fashion choices.

As adults, I think we think of plaid as whimsical and playful, a print that suit almost any mood depending on how you style it. Plaid, though has a laid back feel, can be spruced up in so many ways. The young Hollywood boys opt for skinny cut jeans with Converse tennis shoes and minimal bling. Zach Efron’s look is a bit more dressed up while Rob Pattinson opts for the casual chic look with a white tee, denim shirt and a plaid jacket, along with his Ray-Ban Clubmasters.

Even First Lady Michelle Obama likes to go plaid once in a while. She was recently spotted wearing a Junya Watanabe sweater on her European excursion in April.

My favorite boys in the city, none other than the DC United soccer players, have adopted the plaid shirt, jeans and Chuck Taylors as their go to outfit for casual nights on the town. These boys are so in shape that nothing looks bad on them, not even plaid. Brandon Barklage in his blue plaid shirt.

Devon McTavish in purple plaid at Eighteenth and Red. Devon is the poster child for the classically casual look. He somehow manages to look dressed up in plaid. It’s all about the attitude and how you wear the clothes.

Bryan Namoff has also been known to rock plaid on occassion. He’s seen here wearing a baby blue plaid shirt dark denim. You don’t have to wait until the fall to wear dark color plaid that is synonymous with Burberry and Ralph Lauren. All the looks get two thumbs up from me. An now it’s your turn to look perfect in plaid.
