Galliano fulfills Dreams at Paris Couture Week

27 Jan

“There’s a credit crunch, not a creative crunch. Of course, everyone is being
more careful with their discretionary purchases. I am. But it’s our job to make
people dream, and to provide the value in quality, cut, and imagination,”
British designer John Galliano of the spring 2009 couture collection for the
House of Christian Dior.

And making people dream he did. Galliano’s breath taking collection of crinoline, ruffles, over sized petticoats, color and Delftware embroidering proudly lining pettiskirts, soft blues and Vermeer ushering in Spring. Some of Galliano’s designs were a bit over the top but that’s what I love about his hyper-exaggerated style. Through his couture collection, I could see a bride, who can afford to spend on a Dior piece, wearing his soft ivory lace gown with a touch of blue embroidery on the bodice or going to the Kentucky Derby in a white cocktail length sculpted dress (fourth picture) and a feather hat softly caressing my forehead. A girl can sure dream. See more from the collection here.
