Taylor Momsen | Face of Madonna’s Material Girl

3 Aug

Did I call it or did I CALL IT?  Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen kept busy this summer during the show’s off season developing her singing career with a new band.  The actress who recently fired her stylist so that she can dress herself is the new face of Madonna and Lourdes’ Material Girl clothing collection.  Madonna announced last month that the face of the brand would be revealed soon but based on the clues she gave, I guessed right that Momsen would be the “It” girl. Photos from the shoot are now online thanks to JustJared.com

Olivia Palermo in ASOS Magazine

3 Aug

Socialite and The City cast member Olivia Palermo graces the pages of ASOS magazine for August.  The girl is fashionable and darling but comes off aloof and abrasive on the MTV reality show set within the walls of Elle magazine.

Aside from the beautiful photos, Olivia also talks about her reputation, New York City and fashion:

“It’s unfortunate (of the reputation that the TV show has given her), but I think that people understand what they see on that show is not who I am. It’s not accurate. I’m funny, I’m enthusiastic and I’m not a negative person. I always try and look for the good in things.”

“I love New York but when you’re young you should live in different places. In five years I’d like to be living in London with my boyfriend Johannes (Huebl).”

“I just really, really love clothes,” Palermo enthuses as she talks of the importance of reinventing her closet for different occasions. “I’m my own brand, and I have my own opinion” she unapologetically declares when asked about her determination to succeed in the fashion industry. Olivia also gives a rare insight into her relationship with model Johannes Huebl revealing that their lifestyle is surprisingly understated.

She also talks about moving to London in the near future, her modeling aspirations as well as a foray into acting and designing.  She’s got a full plate but I wouldn’t put it past her to get all those things on her list accomplished.

Glamazon Gadgets: Joy Mangano My Little Steamer

3 Aug

I’ve become accustomed to dry cleaning so much that my iron and ironing board are lost and idle somewhere in my attic collecting dust. I could dry clean at home using Dryel Dry Cleaning sheets but my favorite part of professional dry cleaning is having my clothes steamed and pressed to perfection.  I recently received a product that has been “un-put-downable” since it has been utilized almost everyday.  The Joy Mangano My Little Steamer is the little steamer that could.  This little steaming sensation banishes wrinkles from my wrap dresses and button down shirts in a flash with no elbow grease.
The Joy Mangano My Little Steamer handles tough jobs as well.  I like the ease of use. Using the steamer is very simple. You simply fill the jug with water, cover it up, plug it into the wall and let it heat up – in two minutes or less – and then have a go at it on your clothes. The steamer also comes with various brush heads for tougher jobs like straightening out denim and chambray. Save hundreds of dollars a year on dry cleaning and steaming with this little gadget.  For $34.95, you get the My Little Steamer and a My Little Steamer mini for travel and quick jobs.  The product is available at the Home Shopping Network.  It sells out frequently with the most recent being last month. It’s been restocked again and I am so tempted to buy one for my little brother to take with him to college.

The name UGG Australia is synonymous with cozy Fall and Winter boots.  Those shearling lined brown boots that, over time, have become a faux pas among the fashion elite but is are such a hit among high school girls and gals who don’t give a hoot what people think of them wearing them.  UGG Australia made its foray into cozy knitwear this fall with a 2010 collection of cashmere and wool outerwear so chic, even Anna Wintour might be tempted to don one in her cozy time at home.
The UGG Australia knitwear collection launches this month, just in time for back to school. Full of cable knit sweaters, jersey lined cardigans, shearling hoodies and a brushed lambswool poncho in three different colors. Skip the UGG boot and cozy up in these darlings this winter.

First Look | Chelsea Clinton Wedding Gown & Photos

31 Jul

The world waited with baited breath for the nuptials of First Daughter Chelsea Clinton to her longtime beau Marc Mezvinsky tonight.  Details of the wedding were kept under tighter security than that of the Afghan military intelligence reports.  Up until this afternoon, no one knew which designer Chelsea would be wearing down the aisle, aside from the bridal party and the designer who made the dress. Most people guessed Vera Wang would be the designer of choice for Chelsea, especially since she was spotted earlier this week en route to a Vera Wang boutique in New York City.
The first photos from the wedding, which was held at Astor Courts, a 50-acre estate in Rhinebeck, New York, have been released on CNN, courtesy of the Associated Press and Getty Images. The blushing bride wore a strapless Vera Wang gown with a jewel encrusted waist that defined her middle and a ballgown skirt made out of raw edged laser-cut silk organza and a train in silk tulle.   She opted for the traditional long tulle veil to compliment the diagonal draped bodice of her gown.  She carried a bouquet of white hydrangeas.  Proud mama Hilary Clinton, wore Oscar de la Renta.  Read the full story at CNN.

Made in the USA | Levi Strauss for Brooks Brothers

31 Jul

Levi Strauss & Co. and Brooks Brothers have joined forces for a new denim collaboration.  Made in the USA, a unique collection of three distinct Levi’s brand denim exclusively available at Brooks Brothers stores and online, reaffirms both brand’s dedication to making clothing that are “Made in America.” The denim collection features three Levi’s brand fits, the 501, 505 and 514, which are all for men.

Generations of Americans, including presidents, celebrities and politicians have adopted Levi’s jeans and Brooks Brothers shirts as their uniform while on the campaign trail to get in touch with America, so this collaboration between the two iconic American brands is a no brainer.   The Made in the USA denim collection launched on July 29 online at BrooksBrothers.com as well as the brand’s brick and mortar stores.

Scentsational: Beyonce Heat Ultimate Elixir

31 Jul

Following the success of her debut fragrance, Heat, singer Beyonce Knowles will launch her second scent, Heat Ultimate Elixir, later this year. The new perfume, which launches September 20, will have similar notes as the original with spicy floral red vanilla orchid, Osmanthus petals, cedarwood, amber, vanilla and Tonka bean. The chanteuse says the new scent captures her private side. Does that mean this new fragrance evokes less Sasha Fierce and more Mrs. Sean Carter?

The singer says of the inspiration for her perfume:

“And as a very young girl, hearing her footsteps…her stilettos click, click, clicking on the hardwood floor and she wore a beautiful fragrance and she would walk past me and it would just stay in the room. It left a warm feeling every time I thought about her scent.

“I think about the icons that I respect and they all have their own fragrance so I thought it was time for me to have my own.”
